CTF Life Becomes the First Financial Institution that Primarily Operates in the Greater Bay Area to Submit SBTi Commitment Letter

CTF Life has submitted a carbon reduction commitment letter to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), becoming the first company from the Banks, Diverse Financials and Insurance sector that primarily operates in the Greater Bay Area to take such action. This marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainability with science-based targets that align with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

CTF Life’s carbon reduction target will encompass four key areas, to be accomplished by the end of the 2030 financial year. The four key areas are:
• Substantially reducing CTF Life’s direct emissions (Scope 1)
• Decreasing emissions related to electricity consumption (Scope 2)
• Additionally, as a responsible investor, the company will focus on financed emissions (Scope 3) by aiming for a significant reduction in the emission intensity of the power generation sector within CTF Life’s investment portfolio
• Materially increasing the proportion of its investments in companies that have received validation for their targets from SBTi
To support these efforts, the company is developing a comprehensive roadmap to achieve its objectives.

FTLife launches “Seeds for Future” to promote children’s holistic physical and mental development

FTLife is committed to creating shared value with the belief that the next generation is the foundation of our future. We have recently unveiled our latest CSV initiative, “Seeds for Future”, partnered with two non-profit organisations, The WEMP Foundation (WEMP) and Kai Tak Sports Initiative (KTSI). Aiming to foster the holistic physical and mental development of children, promote positive family education and strengthen parent-child relationships, FTLife will organise a series of Power Up activities to offer quality experiences to families which enabling them to enhance family wellbeing.

The “Daily Emotion Intake” campus tour marks the inaugural event of “Seeds for Future” initiative. Over 100 trained FTLife volunteers will visit ten primary schools across Hong Kong to assist students in understanding and expressing their emotions through the engaging “Daily Emotion Intake” card game.

Looking ahead, FTLife will maintain close collaboration with WEMP and KTSI to launch enriching parent-child activities, helping families to navigate through their life journey with quality experience, enabling them to open up a new world for sustainable growth.

FTLife family EDUtainment soap art workshop

FTLife collaborated with Soap Cycling, an NGO that recycle unfinished soap from local hotels, to organise a family soap art workshop, teaching a group of Life Artisans and their children to transform "waste" collected from hotel partners into unique handmade soaps.

Through this event, participants could not only spend a meaningful time with their families but also educate children to cherish the precious resources of the earth, unleash their creativity to create soaps of different colours and shapes, and support hotel partners within the New World Ecosystem, such as Rosewood and Hyatt Hotel, in their commitment to sustainable development. The finished products can be taken home or donated to needy through Soap Cycling to improve their hygiene conditions.

A joyful Christmas holiday with SEN children

FTLife volunteers take action to realise our belief of “Creating Shared Value”. During the Christmas holiday, we brought a group of SEN (Special Educational Needs) children from The Salvation Army to The LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre at K11 MUSEA, bringing them an interactive and educational experience with LEGO bricks. The various themed play areas help stimulate children’s creativity and imagination, allowing them to learn and grow in a fun way!

FTLife exclusive upcycling workshop

FTLife joined hands with NWS Volunteer Alliance and cooperated with St. James' Settlement Jockey Club Upcycling Centre earlier to handcraft table by upcycling the wooden pallets collected from ATL Logistics Centre. The finished table made by our volunteers will be enjoyed by beneficiaries of The Salvation Army “To．Gather” @Sam Shing Transitional Housing in their common area. Every volunteer has given their best effort, from wood sawing, polishing and reassembling to a table, hoping to deliver the best product and warmth to the underprivileged families.

FTLife sponsored junior sports elites to enjoy a fun-filled snooker class

FTLife is delighted to be the title sponsor of the D.PARK Kids Carnival. Recently, a group of junior sports elites from Cheers Up Foundation were invited to learn snooker hosted by Master Snooker Kingdom. In the event, we are honoured to have Marco Fu, the legendary local snooker player, joined us with sharing of his valuable experience as a professional snooker player. We hope this Olympic sport class could help enhance children’s self-esteem and attitude.

FTLife proudly received Appreciation Award by Hong Kong Taxi Council to recognize our contribution in being the first and only insurer in support of the designated Taxi Fleet set up by the Transport and Housing Bureau and the Hong Kong taxi industry. We have pro-actively offered cash benefit, hospital cash and death benefit for contracting COVID-19, as well as coverage on vaccination side effect to designated taxi fleet who provided patients with free transport services between the designated clinics and their residences.

FTLife X NWS「EXP」Journey 2022

「EXP」Journey is NWS’s signature CSV (Creating Shared Value) program. Leveraging New World Group’s ecosystem, the program offers a variety of career experiences with an aim to take students beyond what books can teach.

EXP is the building blocks of EXPloration. EXPerience. EXPerimentation. FTLife organized an webinar in June 2022 and invited volunteers from various departments to introduce 17 secondary 4’s students from 2 schools to the insurance industry through the sharing of FTLife’s branding strategy, businesses, sustainability vision, knowledge of financial wellness and career development in insurance industry.

The program offers a variety of career experiences for students to connect with something new, find new sides of themselves and even discover their own calling. We wish every student to keep EXPloring, EXPeriencing, EXPerimenting with us on this wonderful journey to their dream career.

FTLife and NewWorld Mask jointly launch the special edition of FTLife Forest Mask

FTLife is committed to creating shared value for all of our stakeholders, driven by the four pillars of business strategies outlined in the “Sustainability Vision 2030” of the New World Development Company Limited: Green, Wellness, Smart and Caring. In June 2022, we are delighted to announce the launch of FTLife Forest Mask, which is a special edition jointly launched with NewWorld Mask. We have built a new mini-site for the public to submit their environmental protection pledges, which will manifest into actual trees being planted. We aim to raise environmental awareness by engaging our audience in their everyday action so they can make concrete contribution to carbon reduction, and to a better, greener future.

Design of the special edition of FTLife Forest Mask is based on the concept of our popular “One Plan One Tree: FTLife Tree-planting Scheme”*, which was rolled out last year to raise environmental awareness. From 16 June until 16 September 2022^, the special edition of FTLife Forest Mask, which is made in Hong Kong, is available at various destinated NewWorld Mask vending machines, including those at K11 MUSEA, K11 Art Mall, K11 ATELIER King’s Road, D•Park and some of the eslite bookstore outlets. Simply scan the “Green Pledge QR Code” on the package and submit pledge on our mini-site, FTLife will translate pledgers’ promises into actual trees being planted by tree-planting partners linked by social enterprise EcoMatcher, a platform that runs global forestation programmes to achieve carbon reduction.

FTLife “Green Month”

In response to World Environment Day, FTLife has transformed June 2022 into it “Green Month” to promote the concept of environmental protection, reinforce colleagues’ green awareness and build a more sustainable community through a series of green initiatives, namely a set of 6 Fun Facts posters displaying at different corners at NEO and FTLife Tower as well as Fun Facts screensaver installed in every colleague’s computer.

FTLife Fully Supports “Share for Good”

Since the launch of “Share for Good” in March 2022, Hong Kong’s first large-scale crowd-donation platform by New World Development, FTLife management team has been actively encouraging colleagues to respond to this meaningful initiative by committing to cash and in-kind donations.

Taking one step more, FTLife launched an internal fundraising campaign and further contributed a total of over HK$350,000 cash donation to the platform to help purchase anti-epidemic supplies to aid the urgent needs of those underprivileged through the distribution network of over 30 NGOs.

“Go Green Go Digital” Sim Card Donation Scheme

Protect Our Children, Protect Our Earth!

FTLife cares for sustainable community development, needs in the society and is committed to promoting and implementing green living. In the recent years, online learning has become more and more common during the pandemic. That inspires us to launch the “Go Green Go Digital” Sim Card Donation Scheme in 2021. For each of the successful registration and switch to e-Service by any FTLife customer, FTLife donated a Sim card to “Principal Chan Free Tutorial World”. Afterwards, we gifted about 9,000 Sim cards to underprivileged children during the 5th wave was hitting hard across Hong Kong enabling them to broaden their horizon through online learning while lessening the burden of the deprived families and contributing to saving the environment by reducing the use of paper.

FTLife provides COVID-19 protections to designated Taxi Fleet and Bus Fleet

During the fifth wave of COVID-19 outbreak, FTLife became the first and only insurer in Hong Kong to provide cash benefit, hospital cash and death benefit for contracting COVID-19, as well as coverage on vaccination side effect to the designated taxi fleet and bus fleet set up by the Transport and Housing Bureau. FTLife always places the practical needs of our clients and the society at the heart of our business as we endeavor to provide timely, well-suited help with our services and products.

About 300 students won FTLife Scholarship despite the pandemic

FTLife upholds its social responsibility and believes in the transformative power of knowledge, and caring. We have been sponsoring Principal Chan Free Tutorial World with our FTLife Scholarship since 2019 to recognise the academic performance improvement by the tutorial school’s underprivileged students, offering them an equal opportunity to learn.

We are delighted to see that Principal Chan Free Tutorial World had been able to support their students in making academic breakthrough in face of the ongoing pandemic, which had hindered those with poor access to online learning resources. About 300 students had been awarded the scholarship in 2020-2021 in the online ceremony sharing their joy and pride.

FTLife has been supporting WWF's "Earth Hour" for eight consecutive years from 2015 to 2022 to help raise public awareness of environmental protection. We have turned off the lights of outdoor signage in Causeway Bay, Hung Hum and Admiralty at 8:30pm on designated date every year to show support for our planet.

Entering its 16th year, "Earth Hour" is one of the world's most significant movements for the environment, engaging millions of people in over 180 countries and territories.

332 students won FTLife Scholarship as they smashed their learning targets despite the pandemic

As an active participant in corporate citizenship, FTLife believes in the transformative power of knowledge, and caring. We have been sponsoring Principal Chan Free Tutorial World with our FTLife Scholarship since 2019 to recognise the academic performance improvement by the tutorial school’s underprivileged students.

We are empathetic with Principal Chan’s vision in education equality, and we also believe in equal learning opportunities for all children. FTLife Scholarship is different from other scholarships which reward the best performing students; we focus on the learning journey, the improvement and hard work. It is especially designed to recognise and encourage the good effort made by underprivileged children, who could have been struggling below the learning curve.

We are delighted to see that Principal Chan Free Tutorial World had been able to support their students in making academic breakthrough in face of the ongoing pandemic, which had hindered those with poor access to online learning resources. A total of 332 students had been awarded the scholarship in 2020. Chan Hung, founder of the Principal Chan Free Tutorial World, said, “2020 has been a challenging year. I am truly grateful for FTLife’s support for our underprivileged children. The scholarship is a huge boost for our student’s confidence, and will fuel them to move upwards and onwards in their learning journey as they strive for a better future.”

FTLife and the St. James' Settlement launch the “Cancer Patient Support Programme” to provide needy colon and gastrointestinal cancer patients with cash assistance and nutrition packs

FTLife is pleased to announce that the FTLife x St. James' Settlement Cancer Patient Support Programme is now under way. This new initiative enables underprivileged colon and gastrointestinal cancer patients to receive emergency cash assistance and cancer-care nutrition packs, as well as other support for themselves and their caretakers, from the Philanthropic Community Pharmacy of St. James’ Settlement.

In June, FTLife introduced the e-Connect Health Platform, which provides our customers with a new all-in-one outpatient colonoscopy and gastroscopy. FTLife believes needy patients should receive financial, rehabilitation and emotional support from the community when fighting cancer. In view of this, FTLife has now decided to go the extra mile, so underprivileged patients with colon and gastrointestinal cancer can receive much needed assistance.

Between 1 June 2020 and 31 May 2021, FTLife will donate HK$1,000 to the FTLife x St. James' Settlement Cancer Patient Support Programme every time a medical insurance customer claims outpatient colonoscopy and gastroscopy. In this way, FTLife customers will be playing a role in helping underprivileged cancer patients benefit from our philanthropic programme – all at the same time as taking care of their own health. Donations will be in the form of emergency cash assistance and cancer-care nutrition packs.

The Philanthropic Community Pharmacy of St. James’ Settlement was established in 2009 as Hong Kong’s first non-profit community pharmacy. It has since been helping to relieve the financial burden borne by underprivileged patients. These typically include those receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance, low-income citizens and the elderly. As well as helping the less fortunate to purchase medication and nutrition packs, the community pharmacy provides essential pharmaceutical consultancy. 【FTLife donates the New World Group’s Epidemic-Prevention Equipment to Principal Chan】

We are grateful to be fully supported by New World Development and NWS Holdings, in regarding the donation of Epidemic-prevention equipment to “Principal Chan Free Tutorial World”. Leaded by volunteers from FTLife and NWS Holdings, the protective equipment was handed to Principal Chan then distributed to a thousand grass-root families. Over 10,000 masks, hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes were sent out.

To support underprivileged students, FTLife joint hands with “Principal Chan Free Tutorial World”

One year since our collocation with “Principal Chan Free Tutorial World”, we’ve aimed to provide 3 years of scholarship for the underprivileged students, in hope to encourage them in the academic pursuits. Given the current situation, many students and their families are suffering from the scarcity of epidemic-prevention equipment. FTLife is more than happy to share the equipment with those in need, and together we will overcome the challenges.

FTLife was bestowed with the Caring Company Logo by Hong Kong Council of Social Service for 18 consecutive years in recognition of its commitment in caring for the community, employees and the environment.

FTLife receives Platinum Award of the Charter on External Lighting from Environment Bureau

Since the launch of the Charter on External Lighting by the Environment Bureau in 2016.

FTLife has been receiving the Platinum Award every year for complying with the switch-off requirements. We turn off the outdoor lighting installations with decorative, promotional or advertising purposes from 11pm to 7am every day, to minimise energy consumption and light nuisance, as well as to provide residents with a better environment.

FTLife Supports Earth Hour 2020

As a responsible corporate citizen, FTLife will once again take part in Earth Hour, the world’s largest collective movement for the environment organised by the WWF. The lights of our signage at the rooftop of the Far East Finance Centre in Admiralty and the neon signs and billboard at the Victoria Harbour will be turned off at 8:30 pm on 28 March (Saturday) to show support for our planet. FTLife set up scholarships to support underprivileged students

True to its charitable corporate culture and its dedication to “protection and succession”, FTLife has established the 3-year FTLife Awards for students from “Principal Chan Free Tutorial World”. The 8th Recognition Ceremony held by Principal Chan Free Tutorial World was completed on 4 Jan 2020. It aims to recognize students’ great improvement in academic performance and encourage them to change their fate with knowledge and lead a fulfilled life.

In addition to being officiated by the Company’s Vice Chairman and Executive Director, Mr. Fang Lin, the company's management and regional directors were invited to be award presenters for “FTLife Scholarship”. The ceremony included the sharing by volunteer teachers and beneficiaries, talent performance and certificate presentation which was filled with warmth and joyful atmosphere.

FTLife has officially joined NWS’s big family and together we participated in volunteer activities for the first time

We are pleased to announce that FTLife Insurance has officially become a wholly-owned subsidiary of NWS Holdings Limited (NWS) on 1 November. After the completion of this acquisition, FTLife teamed up with NWS to participate in volunteer activities for the first time. In early November, FTLife agents and "NWS Volunteer Alliance" visited 50 elderly homes in Kowloon City to perform home safety assessments and understand their needs and difficulties.

“Used Clothes for New Books”

Thank you for your support to the “Used Clothes for New Books” Programme. The programme was ended on 30 April, 2019, and it has recorded a total of over 19,000 clothes donations!

As a people-oriented company and a responsible corporate citizen, FTLife is committed to creating a better society. We have actively participated in various environmental protection and social service activities. This “Used Clothes for New Books” programme pulls our staff, financial consultants and customers together for the common good – recycling resources to protect the environment, and sending blessings to those in need. We hope the books we donated will encourage the deprived children to learn and study for a better future.

The two charitable beneficiaries are The Salvation Army in support of its recycling programme, and China Children and Teenagers’ Fund that supports and sends books to children in rural China.
